Bruce Springsteen's archives going to Monmouth University at Jersey Shore

Bruce Springsteen is giving his personal archive of artifacts to Monmouth University.

The Central Jersey school in West Long Branch, Monmouth County, has announced the formation of the Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music, "which celebrates and reinforces the Jersey Shore's legacy in the history of American music, while providing a transformative experience for our students," Monmouth U.'s president Paul R. Brown said in a statement. The New York Times broke the news.

On Tuesday night, Springsteen — still hard at work promoting his Born To Run memoir — sat down for a conversation at the school with Monmouth grad Robert Santelli, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame alum and director of the Grammy museum in Los Angeles. In 2011, Santelli was instrumental in bringing the Bruce Springsteen Special Collection of 35,000 partially fan-collected Boss items from around the world to his alma mater.

No details were given as to when the Center, which is expected to also bring attention to American music historical figures like Woody Guthrie, will open or what access for fans will be. The news follows last year's word that Bob Dylan's archive is headed to the University of Tulsa in Guthrie's home state of Oklahoma.
