I Say Chiddy, You Say Bang! I Say Taco, You Say Bell!

All this, and free tacos, too.

Last night, Philadelphia hip-pop duo Chiddy Bang did a free show at the First Unitarian Church in Center City. That's rapper Chidera "Chiddy" Amamege on the right and producer/drummer Noah "Xaphoon Jones" Beresin behind the kit on the left.

For those of you who haven't been listening, Chiddy Bang has been selling single out the wazoo for about 15 months now. the Drexel music program dropouts have moved almost a million downlaods world wide, with the big kahuna thus far being the 2010 MGMT-sampling "Opposite Of Adults."

The band's first show at the Church was brought to you by Taco Bell, who've made the band the latest of it's Feed the Beat acts and put "Swelly Express," the title cut to CB's first mixtape, in a new TV commercial.

This is the way the music business works: A big Taco Bell truck parks outside the city's premier punk and indie-rock venue, which these days is underground only in the sense that it's in the basement, and your fans get to come if they win a contest on the fast food company's Facebook page.

The show was a good one, an hour long party that started with a dozen or so photographers and hangers-on on the stage - which was more brightly lit, for Taco Bell streaming video purposes, than I've ever seen it - and ended with at least four dozen people up there, while the room went wild for "Opposite of Adults" and the gratis tacos being passed out to the crowd.

Beresin's worth-watching Germantown-Mt. Airy homeboys Theodore Grams and That Kid CG opened the show. And Chiddy, who recently got himself into the Guiness Book of World Records  for longest freestyle rap with a 9 hour plus rhyme, did an impressive freestyle bit where he came up with rhymes ot words sugested by the crowd like "caviar," "the number four" and Philadelphia."

The band also debuted its new single, "Manners," from Breakfast, the long-time-in-coming full length debut, which is now slated for August. Before the show, Beresin and Anamege were interviewed by while sitting on the altar of the Church sanctuary by some clown with an iPhone.
