Mix Picks: 'Turned Out a Punk' & Jesse Hale Moore at Johnny Brenda's
There are two consecutive commendable nights of cool things happening at Johnny Brenda's this mid-week.
On Wednesday, Damian Abraham, the frontman for Toronto punk band F----- Up, much loved for their 2011 opus David Comes To Life, will do a live taping of his Turned Out A Punk podcast at the Fishtown club. TOAP is a weekly music pod in which Abraham interviews a person of interest whose life was changed by punk-rock. At JB's, he'll talk to Andy Nelson of Paint It Black and R5 Productions and profession wrestler Jeff Cannonball. On Thursday, estimable Philly based music blog Yvynyl presents an Athletes For Cancer benefite concert with three worthy Philly acts. Jesse Hale Moore headlines. the songwriter and keyboard player who formerly played with Auctioneer and Ladies Auxiliary and has recently completed a debut full length due in 2017, with Dave Hartley of Nightlands and The War On Drugs as a collaborator. Also on the bill: Simlarly synthy Keith Birthday-led indie-pop act Norwegian Arms, whose album Girard Freeloader is due in January, and Vexed. Details here.
