Philly gets into the morning dance party scene with Best Day Ever

Would God approve of this rave?

Are cascading bubbles at the chapel entrance standard prior to services? Is a scattered and sporadic arrival of neon spandex-clad partiers filtering in and out of the space kosher for this venue?

Best Day Ever is a rave with a health-focus that features DJs, dancing, and other forms of movement, such as yoga and hula-hooping. So here I was, at 6:30 a.m. on a Thursday.

“At the end of March, we were like, ‘It would be really cool if we could do a morning dance party,’” Kelemen, 24, said. It was 7:30 a.m. She was wearing cat ears a la Ariana Grande and spandex with characters from Cartoon Network’s Adventure Time printed on them. “Then by April we were like, ‘We should just do a morning dance party.’”

Jessica Schadt and Bethany Housman were waiting with hula-hoops. Schadt had heard about Best Day Ever from hooper forums on Facebook. She’d seen DJ Mambisa before and wanted to try out the early-morning hula-hoop dance/art form.
