Limerick 3rd-grader a semi-finalist in Google Doodle contest

Hayley Roberts, of Evans Elementary School, placed in the top 250 out of 130,000 submissions for Google's 4th annual student Doodle contest.

For third-grader Hayley Roberts, the "Best Day Ever" would span land, air and sea.

Hayley imagined that magical day Google-style, in a creative drawing melding scenes of her swinging on a tire swing, riding a hot air balloon, swimming, playing soccer and roasting marshmallows.

Her "Doodle" was the top state finalist in her age category -- placing Hayley in the top 250 out of 130,000 submissions.

"Hayley is a very talented young artist. Her accomplishment shows that you can do anything you put your mind to," said her art teacher, Kathryn Barton.

Hayley didn't make it to the final 50, but another Pennsylvania student did -- Mia B, of Dunmore Elementary School in Lackawanna County.  Mia's drawing, one of 10 finalists in the 6th and 7th grade category, showcases her love of science with a microscope and telescope, a rocket and a chemistry set.  Voting is open until Friday.  The winner will receive a $30,000 scholarship, a $50,000 technology grant for their school and, of course, their Doodle will be featured on Google.com.
