Brown gets nod over Curtis
Earlier this week, when we broke down the offensive personnel packages against the 49ers, we wondered what Andy Reid would do at wide receiver against the Broncos.
Kevin Curtis returned from injury last week, and Jeremy Maclin was set to return this week, giving the Eagles five healthy options.
Reid decided not to go with five though and instead sit Curtis, just one week after he returned.
Curtis played eight snaps against San Francisco, catching one ball for 7 yards. He was targeted twice and played on the outside in four-receiver packages on every play.
The Eagles, who had seven receivers in the preseason, now have three guys locked in to their lineup, provided they're healthy: DeSean Jackson, Maclin and Jason Avant.
But what they do with their fourth and fifth receivers will be interesting to watch down the stretch.
Reggie Brown sat the first two weeks, but has been a mainstay since, starting as the No. 2 receiver when Maclin was sidelined. He has been OK. Brown hasn't hurt the Eagles, but he hasn't been very productive either (eight cathes for 148 yards).
Will he stay in the lineup next week against the Cowboys and in the playoffs? Or will Curtis take his place if he shows he's healthy? Those are the questions facing Reid. Unless, of course, he decides to keep five receivers active going forward.
