LMSD TEDx chapter hosts guest speaker and socially conscious alum David Spandorfer

Lower Merion School District is holding an independently organized TEDx event Monday, June 4 to show students how they can effect societal change.

The students of Lower Merion School District's chapter of TEDx, the nonprofit organization devoted to fostering positive societal change, organized the event, which includes speakers who are current and former students of the district.

One of the former students speaking at the event is David Spandorfer, the CEO of the new running apparel company, Janji, which he started along with business partner Mike Burnstein last year in his final year at the Washington University of St. Louis.

A Class of 2007 alum, Spandorfer founded Janji as a "movement of runners devoted to ending the global food and water crisis. While we runners require lots of clean water and a ton of healthy food to help us train, run our 5ks, and finish our marathons, hundreds of millions around the world lack the simple nourishment just to survive."

Spandorfer's Janji aims to fund solutions and raise awareness through the runner's apparel, fostering a sense of duty among runners worldwide.

The company has won multiple awards and grants from a variety of funders and business plan competitions, including first place in the 2011 University of Colorado at Colorado Springs Sports/Outdoors Business Plan Competition.

Janji already had product launches in St. Louis, Chicago, Atlanta and Cincinnati, and it will have its Philly launch next Thursday at Bryn Mawr Running Company on Lancaster Avenue at 7:30 p.m. This launch is open to the public and wil have free food and water bottles for the first 50 customers.
