Rain could dampen NarbEarth Day 2012 this weekend

The organizers of NarbEarth Day 2012 want borough and regionwide residents to enjoy the Saturday, April 21 event, but it could get postponed pending rain.

Georgette DuBois and her fellow Narberth Civic Association organizers are excited to celebrate NarbEarth Day 2012 on Saturday, April 21, but mother nature could ironically waterlog her own soiree, after this week's weather forecast threw the possibility of rain in the weekend mix.

"One website says its a 20 percent chance, another says 40," DuBois said. "Our rain date for Sunday [April 22] has an even greater chance."

As of this post's publishing, The Weather Channel website has Saturday's Narberth forecast at a high temperature of 74 degrees with 20 percent chance of percipitation. Sunday in Narberth, according to the Weather Channel, has a 70 percent chance of rain.

DuBois, a gentle yoga instructor and business owner, said NarbEarth attendees should check the Narberth Civic Association's website in the case of inclimate weather. A decision will be made by 9 a.m. Saturday.

"We aren't show what we'll be posting, so be sure to check it out," the event organizer said.

If weather permits, the event will take place from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Narberth Park next to the Narberth Community Library on Windsor Avenue.

The free family event has a host of green activities planned, including the opportunity for attendees to learn about growing their own gardens with organic vegetables and herbs, as well as the chance to swap used and in-good-condition toys and household goods sponsored by the group, LM-Narberth Totally Free Items.

Kids will have the chance to see domestic and small wild animals, participate in craft projects and help plant a flower garden at the park's entrance.

In addition to live music, adults and kids familiar with the event are in store for a new treat; professional hula hoop instructor Leah Troiano is going to teach everyone how to hula hoop.

"It's an activity that everbody can do, even if they're new at it," DuBois said. "It's fun for everbody to try, and it doesn't evolved being plugged into anything electronic."
