Runners test their speed against SEPTA at 'Race The Bus' event

On Wednesday, March 22, join the West Philly Runners, Clean Air Council and SEPTA as they team up for the third Race The Bus event, where runners of all paces will test their speed against public transportation.

Here's how it will work: Runners will meet at 40th and Chestnut Streets at 5:30 p.m. to line up for the SEPTA 21 bus, which is scheduled to make a stop at 5:41 p.m. From there, runners and SEPTA riders will then head East through Center City for 3.1 miles until they reach the final stop at 2nd and Chestnut Streets.

Keep in mind that the 21 bus is mandated to make all regular stops during prime rush hour traffic.

According to the bus schedule, it will take roughly 35 minutes for SEPTA to complete its route. Depending on various paces, the run should take anywhere from 25-35 minutes.

Runners should note that this an unofficial race with no street closures, no entry fee, and no aid stations along the course.

Following the event, runners can head to Plough & the Stars in Old City for a free beer and bites. All participants will also receive a discounted registration to the Run for Clean Air on April, 9. Plus, the top 10 finishers who beat the bus will receive a SEPTA t-shirt.

So far, 26 people have signed up for the event on Facebook.
