Flyers winger Wayne Simmonds in Sweet 16 of EA SPORTS NHL 14 Cover Vote

Philadelphia Flyers winger Wayne Simmonds advanced to the Sweet 16 of the EA SPORTS NHL 14 Cover Vote. Simmonds made the cut as a No. 7-seed and now squares off against No. 2-seed Pittsburgh Penguins center Evgeni Malkin.

Voting began on Monday, May 6 and ends Sunday, May 12. Whichever player has more votes come Sunday will advance to the next round.

Voting for the new cover began on April 22 with a field of 60 players, two representatives from each team facing off against one another. Simmonds and Bobby Clarke Trophy winner Jake Voracek represented the Flyers. Simmonds garnered more votes than the team's leading scorer and moved on.

The second round of voting began on April 29, with each team's representative plus two additional wild cards. Simmonds was among the top 16 vote-getters and advanced.

Four former Flyers also made the Sweet 16. No. 3-seed James van Riemsdyk (Toronto Maple Leafs), No. 4-seed Sergei Bobrovsky (Columbus Blue Jackets), No. 7-seed Joffrey Lupul (Toronto Maple Leafs) and No. 5-seed Patrick Sharp (Chicago Blackhawks) are still in the running to grace the cover of next year's game.

Last year's contest generated over 25 millions fan votes, which resulted in Claude Giroux on the cover.
