Matt Stairs' Winter Classic scouting report

In Game 4 of the 2008 NLCS, Matt Stairs carved out his place in Phillies' history when he hit a game-winning, two-run homer off Dodgers' reliever Jonathan Broxton.

The Phillies won the World Series, and now Stairs has a big, shiny ring on his finger.

But Stairs, now a free agent, has a second love - hockey.

"I'm a hockey guy and I absolutely love it," he told NHL.com

Stairs, who was at the Wachovia Center for the Flyers' 4-3 victory over the Boston Bruins on Oct. 22, will attend the Winter Classic at Fenway Park on New Year's Day.

He provided a little scouting report for the hockey Web site.

"I probably will give Boston the edge going into Fenway Park," Stairs said. "It'll probably give them a little extra energy. It's the first time Philadelphia will be part of an outdoor game, so they'll be fired up too."

Stairs, however, said he will be looking for the Flyers to turn it around after the All-Star break.

"They started off well real well, then went on a tail spin," he said. "They have great talent and no problem scoring goals. I think we'll see them bounce back in the second half of the season."
