The Inquirer's Zach Berman reports that the Eagles have recieved permission from the New York Giants to interview Coughlin. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the interview is likely to occur Monday.
If he is in serious consideration for the Eagles' head coaching vacancy, he has one big supporter - Bill Parcells.
The Hall of Fame coach was a guest on 97.5 The Fanatic Thursday when he was asked if Coughlin would be a good fit in Philadelphia.
"I know guys Tom Coughlin's age who know a whole lot more about football than some of the 30-year-olds who are coaching it," Parcells said. "I think his record pretty much speaks for itself."
Parcells also noted that other than Coughlin, the list of candidates available for the various head coaching vacancies around the league leaves a lot to be desired.
"The talent pool is a little bit thin right now," Parcells said. "The debate is always between the experienced coach vs. the hot coordinator. Nobody knows which of this hot coordinators are eventually going to be successful"
The 69-year-old Coughlin stepped down after coaching the Giants for 12 seasons, a run that included two Super Bowl victories. Prior to his stint with the Giants, Coughlin was the first coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars, who he led to two AFC Championship Games during his 7 seasons as coach.
