Halladay leads Philadelphia Sports Writers Association's honorees

Phillies pitcher Roy Halladay was named the Outstanding Pro Athlete at the 107th annual Philadelphia Sports Writers Association banquet Monday night in Cherry Hill.

Halladay also accepted the National League Cy Young award in the Philadelphia presentation of the honor that was formally bestowed upon him two weeks ago at the Baseball Writers Association of America event in New York.

Halladay, Shane Victorino (Humanitarian of the Year) and manager Charlie Manuel addressed the packed ballroom.

Boston College linebacker Mark Herzlich was named the Most Courageous Athlete for his comeback from Ewing's sacroma, a rare form of bone cancer. He was diagnosed in May 2008.

Herzlich returned to play his senior season at Boston College after sitting out in 2009 and last week participated in the Senior Bowl.

Gina Procaccio (Villanova Cross Country) - Special Achievement
Gabby Mayo (Texas A&M women's track) - Frank Dolson Award (Penn Relays)
Wyatt Middleton (Navy football) - Army-Navy MVP
