Hope for Hawks' fans

Here is what Saint Joseph's coaches have to hope -- all their freshmen on this team show as much improvement one season to the next as sophomore Carl Jones.

Jones is your modern-day scoring point guard. He averaged 9.6 points last season and is at 17.5 points this season. He has all kinds of ways to score. And his outside shot is starting to get more reliable. He is not a pass-first player, but that is not really what this team needs at the moment. It needs somebody who can score. And he can score.

I have seen the Hawks enough to get a sense of the talent, but have no idea what this might lead to down the road.

Langston Galloway has a nice pace to his game, along with a pure stroke. C.J. Aiken has the potential to change games with his long arms and shot-blocking ability. Once he got rolling Sunday at Princeton, Ronald Roberts looked like the only player in the gym jumping. Don't know what his vertical is, but it has to be substantial. He is not polished, but he is a fascinating piece to a puzzle that is going to take some time to solve.

The Hawks host No. 20 Minnesota tomorrow at Hagan Arena at 7 p.m. St. Joe's played at Minnesota last season.
