1. Assault on gay couple: Police are pouring through tips and leads that have come in through social media to identify the people who brutally assaulted a gay couple in Center City. An assistant basketball coach at Archbishop Wood High School has been fired for his alleged involvement in the incident.

2. Slain trooper: Police are continuing to search Northeast Pennsylvania for Eric Frein, the man accused of fatally shooting one state police officer and injuring another in an ambush attack. The funeral for the slain trooper, Cpl. Bryon Dickson, is scheduled for this morning in Scranton.

3. Scottish independence: Scots are voting today in a referendum to determine whether Scotland will leave the United Kingdom, and polls show the vote is expected to be close. The vote has spurred much debate for Scots living in the Philadelphia region.

4. Port Authority changes: Legislators are discussing measures today to improve transparency and accountability at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the agency at the center of the George Washington Bridge lane closures scandal.

5. Poverty rates: The number of people living in poverty spiked in New Jersey between 2012 and 2013, while Philadelphia saw a small drop, according to Census Bureau figures released today.
