The 13 worst commutes around Philadelphia

Commuters who drive on Interstate 676 between I-95 and I-76 or on state Route 611 between the Pennsylvania Turnpike and I-95 during rush hour spend 125 hours a year sitting in traffic.

Those are the worst commutes in the region, according to a new report from TRIP, a transportation research group backed by advocates for highway improvements.

Besides the lost hours due to congestion, drivers on those stretches of I-676 and Route 611 also waste 54 gallons of gas per year, TRIP's report found. Here are the routes the organization says are the worst commutes in the Philadelphia region, based on time and fuel lost due to traffic congestion during peak hours:

1. I-676 from I-95 to I-76 in Philadelphia: Drivers lose 125 hours and 54 gallons of gas annually due to congestion; 64,000 to 117,000 daily drivers

2. Pennsylvania Route 611 from the Turnpike to I-95 in Montgomery County and Philadelphia:  Drivers lose 125 hours and 54 gallons of gas annually due to congestion; 28,000 daily drivers

3. U.S. Route 422 from U.S. 202 to Egypt Road in Montgomery County: Drivers lose 67 hours and 29 gallons of gas annually due to congestion; 64,000 to 83,000 daily drivers

4. I-76 from I-676 to Belmont Avenue in Philadelphia and Montgomery County: Drivers lose 58 hours and 25 gallons of gas annually due to congestion; 88,000 to 124,000 daily drivers

5. I-95 from the Betsy Ross Bridge/Aramingo Avenue to I-676/Spring Garden Street in Philadelphia: Drivers lose 58 hours and 25 gallons of gas annually due to congestion; 160,000 daily drivers

6. U.S. 202 from Swedesford Road to Pennsylvania Route 401 in Chester County: Drivers lose 58 hours and 25 gallons of gas annually due to congestion; 71,000 to 76,000 daily drivers

7. U.S. Route 1 from the Turnpike to I-76 in Bucks County: Drivers lose 58 hours and 25 gallons of gas annually due to congestion; 60,000 daily drivers

8. I-76 from Hollow Road to Matonsford Road in Philadelphia and Montgomery County: Drivers lose 50 hours and 21 gallons of gas annually due to congestion; 90,000 daily drivers

9. I-76 from Matonsford Road to the Turnpike in Montgomery County: Drivers lose 50 hours and 21 gallons of gas annually due to congestion; 90,000 daily drivers

10. I-95 from Stewart Avenue to the Delaware state line/parts of the I-476 interchange with I-95 in Delaware County: Drivers lose 50 hours and 21 gallons of gas annually due to congestion; 94,000 to 132,000 daily drivers

11. I-476 from U.S. Route 30 to Baltimore Pike in Delaware County: Drivers lose 42 hours and 18 gallons of gas annually due to congestion; 94,000 to 100,000 daily drivers

12. U.S. Route 202 from U.S. 322 to Pennsylvania Route 491 in Chester and Delaware counties: Drivers lose 42 hours and 18 gallons of gas annually due to congestion; 52,000 daily drivers

13. U.S. Route 322 from U.S. 1 to I-95 in Delaware County: Drivers lose 38 hours and 16 gallons of gas annually due to congestion; 22,000 to 34,000 daily drivers.
