Florida is often thought of as the capital of retirees. But some of the best places for the soon-to-be-retiring baby boomers are right here in Pennsylvania, including the Philadelphia area, a new study says.
The financial website NerdWallet calculated the best places for baby boomers, based on affordability (the ACCRA Cost of Living Index), healthcare accessibility (the number of physicians per capita), public transportation and social life (the percent of the population between ages 50 and 70).
NerdWallet says the best metro areas for baby boomers are:
3. Buffalo-Niagara Falls, N.Y.
5. Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach
6. Louisville-Jefferson County, Ky.
7. Seattle Tacoma-Bellevue
8. St. Louis
9. Milwaukee-Waukesha-West Allis
The site says the Philly area "offers good public transportation coverage, a large baby boomer population and plenty of physicians." NerdWallet also cited adult education programs from area universities and a "thriving music scene" as reasons the city is a good bet for baby boomers.
