While you might want a new PS4 or shiny diamond bracelet this Christmas, all Rover wants is a nice place to live. Luckily, the canines at Faithful Friends Animal Society in Wilmington are getting their wish, all thanks to one major holiday benefactor.
A surprise gift from Dr. Sandra Gibney, the donation to Faithful Friends will afford the no-kill shelter a better space and updated equipment to pamper their homeless pooches. The catch? They're going to have to rename their building "Gibney's Doggie Kingdom" in honor of the donation. But, then, trading a shelter for a kingdom ain't all bad.
"I am honored to have the opportunity to support Faithful Friends in the creation of Doggie Kingdom, an exclusive 'home away from home' for dogs awaiting their forever homes," Gibney said via a statement.
Meanwhile, Faithful Friends expect to complete their renovations by February, closing off their animal intake for the time being. But don't worry: All remaining shelter dogs have been adopted and placed in new homes, aside from a few larger breeds.
Which, of course, explains why Faithful Friends has decided to waive adoption fees through the beginning of January. Anyone looking for a dog? Now's your chance to help build the Kingdom.
