The big story of the day was Villanova collecting its fourth straight women's distance medley relay Championship of America.

After four hours of 4x400 girls' relay heats in the afternoon, Gwynedd Mercy claimed top honors in the girls' 4x400 Philadelphia Academic relay with a clocking of 3:58.14. 5:06

Earlier, Springside Chestnut Hill Academy junior Brooklynn Broadwater won the 400 meter hurdles championship in 1 minute, 69 seconds. And there was a surprise in the women's college 4x100-meter relay, as perennial powers LSU and Oregon both dropped their batons and were disqualified.

Relay action resumes Friday morning at 9 a.m. with the college men's 400-meter hurdles, followed by high school boys 4x800 heats.

6:50: In the girls' mile championship, Pennridge's Marissa Sheva (4:58.10) and Olivia Sargent (5:04.89) placed third and fifth, respectively. Malia Ellington, of Davidson (N.C.), won in 4:54.38.

6:25: Villanova collected its fourth straight title in the women's distance medley relay Champions of America race with a time of 11:09.06. Stephanie Schappert shined in the anchor leg with a mark of a 4:39.61. The Wildcats crossed the line ahead of Stanford (11:11.07) and Georgetown (11:16.83).

6:12: Paul Robseon, with a clocking of 3:57.90, pulled away from Overbrook (4:08.98) and Girls' High (4:11.12) down the stretch to win the girls' 4x400 Philadelphia Public relay.

6:05: Moving to the other side of the river, Pemberton (4:07.97), Deptford (4:09.51), and Haddonfield (4:10.88) were the top finishers in the girls' 4x400 South Jersey small relay. Tanaesza Russell handled the anchor leg for Pemberton in 1:00.59.

5:57: In the girls' 4x400 Philadelphia Catholic relay, Neumann-Goretti (4:00.20) beat out Archbishop Ryan (4:16.01) and Archbishop Prendergast (4:17.09) for top honors.

5:32: North Penn placed first in the girls' 4x400 Suburban National relay with a clocking of 3:52.10. The Maidens were followed by Central Bucks South (3:59.34) and Central Bucks West (4:00.44).

5:25: In the girls' 4x400 Suburban Ches-Mont relay, Coatesville (4:03.66), Downingtown West (4:05.64), and Lower Moreland (4:10.21) led the pack.

5:22: Perkiomen Valley (4:06.16), Methacton (4:07.46), and Owen J. Roberts (4:10.40) were the top three finishers in the girls' 4x400 Suburban A relay.

5:18: Penncrest (Katie Arbogast, Briana Artis, Megan Kitchin, and Alicia Collier) finished first in the girls' 4x400 Central League relay in 4:02.92.

5:06: Gwynedd-Mercy easily claimed top honors in the girls' 4x400 Philadelphia Academic relay with a clocking of 3:58 14. The Monarchs finished ahead of Germantown Friends (4:06.77), Notre Dame (4:07.27), and Friends' Central (4:02.32).

4:20: Pennsbury's Uche Onuoha placed ninth in the pole vault with an effort of 37 feet, 11 1/2 inches.

4:13: Pennridge's Ariana Przybylowski took 10th in the pole vault with a mark of 17 feet, 9 inches. Next in line among area schools were Ridley's Valerie McLaughlin (13th, 17-5 1/2) and Archbishop Ryan's Alison Jones (24th, 16-10).

4:07: Council Rock South's Dominique Franco finished tied for eighth place in the pole vault with an effort of 11 feet, 5 3/4 inches.

3:45: Princeton junior Julia Ratcliffe captured the women's hammer throw for the second straight year with a showing of 217 feet, 6 inches.

3:40: LSU had a pair of winners in the field events. Senior Tori Bliss, who placed second in the shotput at last year's NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, won her speciality at Penn with a throw of 56 feet, 5 3/4 inches. Sophomore Nataliyah Friar leaped 20 feet, 7 3/4 inches to win the long jump.

2:35: Two favorites in the women's 4x100, LSU and Oregon, were disqualified in the heats because of failed baton exhanges and will surprisingly be sitting out the final.

1:57: Texas (45.99), Jamaica's UTech (45.66), and South Carolina (46.18) were the top three finishers in the college women's 4x100 heats. Nine fastest teams qualify for Championship Invitational at 1 p.m. Friday. Next eight fastest qualify for a College Final at 1:05 p.m. Friday. Next eight fastest qualify for ECAC Final at 1:07 p.m. Friday.

1:34: In the girls' 4x100 large schools heat, Cheltenham (Ciara Leonard, Janiel Slowly, Alexis Crosby, and Chanel Brissett) placed fourth overall in 48.10. Next in line among area schoiols were Pennsbury (sixth, 48.40), Norristown (seventh, 48.43), and Pennridge (49.00).

12:41: In a high school girls' 4x100 large schools heat, Coatesville (49.68) and Central Bucks West (49.99) placed fourth and sixth, respectively. The eight fastest teams qualify for Friday's 2:25 final.

11:36: Unionville (9:18.57), Great Valley (9:20.39), North Penn (9:22.20), and Pennsbury (9:26.68) qualified for the high school girls' 4x800 championship final at 1:10 p.m. Friday. Unionville's squad - Gretchen Mills, Kacie Breeding, Cami Rickenback, and Anna Juul - placed fourth overall. Western Branch (Va.) was first in 9:09.43.

11:18: North Penn won its heat in the high school girls' 4x800 large schools relay in 9:22.20. The team is made up of Stephanie Bresadola, Ali Valenti, Mikaela Vlasic, and Phoebe Clowser.

11:13: Pennsbury (9:26.68) and Central Bucks West (9:33.81) took third and fourth place, respectively, in their high school girls' 4x800 large schools relay heats. The 12 fastest teams qualify for the championship final at 1:10 p.m. Friday.

11:04: In the high school girls' 4x800 small schools, Unionville placed second in its heat with a time of 9:18,57. Jillian Decker (2:18.36), Beatrice Boylan (2:16.71), Ashley Wallace (2:23.13), and Dara Cuffe (2:19.09) make up the squad.

10:50: In the high school girls' 400 meter hurdles championship, Springside Chestnut Hill Academy junior Brooklynn Broadwater won in 1 minute, 69 seconds. Cheltenham's Ciara Leonard placed 10th in 103:91.
