Chip Kelly says he was in "constant contact" with Evan Mathis' representatives during past four months

Chip Kelly said Wednesday that he had been in "constant contact" with Evan Mathis' agents during the past four months. On Tuesday, Kelly said the Eagles released Evan Mathis at Mathis' request, but Mathis said he didn't make that request since March.

"We were in constant contact with his agents – Ed [Marynowitz] and myself personally – March, April, May, June," Kelly said.

Kelly also said he "didn't get" the indication that Mathis would show up for mandatory mini-camp this week. He spoke to Mathis on Thursday and explained why the Eagles were releasing Mathis and wished Mathis luck. Kelly said that was the end of the conversation.

Kelly refuted the idea that "culture" was part of the reason the Eagles released Mathis.
