DeMarco Murray practices on Monday, does not have reason for Sunday's absence from team drills

DeMarco Murray returned to a normal practice load on Monday, but he did not have an explanation for his conspicuous absence from team drills on Sunday. He said that his lack of participation was a coach's decision, and it was not related to an injury.

"You're always upset when you don't get the chance to go out there and compete and take the pressure off the other guys," Murray said. "Obviously, as a competitor I want to be out there, but it didn't happen."

Murray said he did not ask for explanation.

"I just do what I'm told," he said.

He said he feels "fine" and he wanted to practice as much as he could. He added that he does not control his workload.

"That's out of my control," Murray said. "it's not up to me. It's up to Duce [Staley] and Chip [Kelly]. I put a lot of good work in. You always want to be out there as much as you can."

It's not unusual for a player to manage their workload during training camp, although it does not usually happen on the first practice of the summer.

Kelly speaks to reporters on Tuesday.
