Eagles set to hire new personnel head
The Eagles will interview Bears director of college scouting Joe Douglas for their personnel-head opening, NFL sources said.
The interview is believed to be a mere formality, and barring an unforeseen change, Douglas will be offered the post. Douglas, in essence, would head the Eagles' scouting department and report to Eagles executive vice president of football operations Howie Roseman.
Douglas has been with the Bears for just one year. He was hired away from the Ravens, for whom he was a national scout, last offseason. He worked in Baltimore for 15 years under Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome. Before becoming a national evaluator, he scouted the Southeast and the East Coast.
He played a role in the Ravens' drafting quarterback Joe Flacco and running back Ray Rice, according to the team's Web site.
The Eagles began their search for a "personnel head" in January after Doug Pederson was named head coach. But the search was suspended after two weeks because, Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie said, there would be a larger pool of candidates after the draft.
Scouting contracts generally expire in May.
The Eagles interviewed several candidates in January, including Steelers pro personnel coordinator Brandon Hunt and NFL Network analyst and former Eagles scout Daniel Jeremiah.
