Eagles sign former Kansas City Chiefs QB Aaron Murray to practice squad

The Eagles signed former Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Aaron Murray to the practice squad on Tuesday and released wide receiver Marcus Johnson.

Murray, 25, was a 2014 fourth-round pick who played with the Chiefs for the past two seasons when Doug Pederson was their offensive coordinator. He rejoins Pederson and No. 2 quarterback Chase Daniel in Philadelphia, where Murray already knows the offense from his time with Pederson.

Murray, who is 6-foot-1 and 207 pounds, becomes the third quarterback for the Eagles and could receive a promotion if Carson Wentz or Daniel gets injured. But because the Eagles have only two quarterbacks active on game days, there's no need to have him on the active roster unless they feel he will be poached by another team. Murray signed with the Arizona Cardinals practice squad after he was released before the season, but the Cardinals cut him on Monday.

A former standout at Georgia, Murray threw 121 touchdowns in four years with the Bulldogs. He has not attempted a pass in the NFL regular season. Murray threw three interceptions and no touchdowns for the Chiefs during this past preseason.
