Former Eagle, N.J. congressman Jon Runyan to work for NFL
Former Eagles tackle and New Jersey Congressman Jon Runyan has re-joined the NFL and will serve as vice president of policy and rules administration, the league said Tuesday.
Runyan, who played 14 NFL seasons, served two terms as representative for South Jersey's 3rd congressional district (2011-15), but he will be involved in regulations in his new role. According the NFL's statement, Runyan will "serve as Commissioner (Roger) Goodell's designee for on-field discipline" as agreed upon by the NFL and NFLPA collective bargaining agreement.
"It was my life's dream to play in the NFL and I am incredibly grateful for the experience those 14 seasons gave me," Runyan said. "I am thrilled to once again be a part of the NFL family and give back to the game that gave me so much. I am looking forward to sharing the experiences and lessons I've learned on and off the field with fellow NFL personnel, and I am excited for this great opportunity."
Runyan will be reunited professionally with former Eagle and former NFLPA leader Troy Vincent, who is now NFL executive vice president of football operations.
"Jon's breadth of experience from the gridiron to the halls of Congress to the NFL offices brings a unique perspective shaped by leadership as a player and in public service," Vincent said in the NFL's statement. "He is a welcome addition to our team as we work to advance and grow the game, and develop all football personnel and players."
Runyan had enough time on his hands that he made an appearance in Feb. 2016 at Wing Bowl at the Wells Fargo Center.
