Eagles' Deon Long was cut by Rams for having woman in his dorm

When the Eagles signed wide receiver Deon Long last week, it wasn't much of a headline. Long was a practice squad player on the St. Louis Rams and Miami Dolphins last year, and he was cut by the now-Los Angeles Rams earlier this summer. Nothing unusual about that, right?

Well, apparently there was more to the matter than first met the eye.

On Tuesday's episode of HBO's "Hard Knocks" series, Rams coach Jeff Fisher revealed the real reason why Long was sent packing: he had a female visitor in his dorm at Rams training camp.

The show included footage of the meeting where Fisher told Long he was being cut.

"What part of the rules, what part of 'no female guests in the room,' did you not understand?" Fisher said.

Fisher later met with the team and told them he had no plans for the Rams to be mediocre (meaning a record of 9-7, 8-8 or 7-9).

Fisher told the team of Long's violation of the rules and why he was cut: "We had some 7-9 [stuff] this morning and we can't have that. Deon is gone. That is 7-9 [stuff] and we don't need it."
