Jenkins recovering from concussion

Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins sat out practice for the second straight day Wednesday.

Safety Malcolm Jenkins sat out Eagles practice for the second straight day Wednesday. Chip Kelly revealed at his morning news conference that Jenkins had suffered a concussion in Sunday night's 33-27 overtime win over the Cowboys and is going through the league-mandated concussion protocol.

Interestingly, Jenkins played every snap against the Cowboys, which means his concussion wasn't diagnosed until after the game. Kelly confirmed that the concussion did occur during the game and not away from the field at some point.

Asked when during the game it happened given that he played every snap, Kelly said, "You can talk to Malcolm about that.'' Of course, Kelly knows full well that injured players generally are off-limits to the media.

Later in the news conference, Kelly said he wasn't concerned about Jenkins' injury. "He should be back tomorrow,'' he said.

Jenkins actually was out on the field during practice Wednesday doing some light running on the side without his helmet.

Left tackle Jason Peters, who missed the Dallas game with a back injury, practiced Wednesday. He didn't practice Tuesday. Peters said after the game on Sunday that he will play this week.

Wide receiver Nelson Agholor, who has missed the last three games with an ankle injury, practiced for the second straight day. "He's somebody we have to monitor in terms of where he'll be,'' Kelly said. "He was good last week early, but then being out on the field wore him down a little bit. He was yesterday and says he feels good today, so we'll see how that goes.''

--After a rough start, kicker Caleb Sturgis has been playing well. He has made 11 of his last 12 field goal attempts, including a big 53-yarder in the fourth quarter Sunday against the Cowboys that gave the Eagles a 27-24 lead.

Sturgis's only miss in the last four games was a 50-yarder against Carolina. Earlier in that game, he hit a 52-yarder. "We've had a lot of confidence in him,'' Kelly said. "I think when you look around the league, I'm not sure anybody's 100 percent (accurate). But when we watch him in training, when we watch him in practice, he's really sound mechanically. He's done everything we've asked him to do.

"When you look at the kicks he's missed, there's some reasons for it. Snap, hold. It wasn't just Caleb -- it was the whole operation. I think we've got all that straightened out and we have a lot of confidence in him. He hit a big one against Dallas. That 53-yarder was a huge one at that point in time.''
