Eagles waive linebacker Steven Daniels

The decision leaves the roster at 89 players, with room to add one.

The Eagles waived linebacker Steven Daniels on Thursday, bringing the roster down to 89 players.

Daniels, 24, was claimed off waivers last month. He was a 2016 seventh-round pick by the Washington Redskins out of Boston College and missed his rookie year because of a torn labrum. The Eagles made Thursday's move after evaluating Daniels during the first two weeks of organized team activities.

Daniels competed for a backup linebacker job with the Eagles. Without Daniels, the reserves at the position are Najee Goode, Joe Walker, Kamu Grugier-Hill, Nate Gerry, and Don Cherry. The starting linebackers are Jordan Hicks, Nigel Bradham, and Mychal Kendricks.

The Eagles have an open roster spot if they want to add a player.
