Sloppy Eagles getting pounded by Lions

DETROIT -- The Eagles did not suddenly become a good team between Sunday's hideous loss to Tampa Bay and Thursday's visit to Detroit.

For all the talk about having been embarrassed, all the rhetoric about digging deep, the Eagles' injuries and indifferent play took center stage again as they forged a 24-7 halftime deficit against the Lions at Ford Field.

After surrendering 253 yards in the first half, the Eagles' defense was again in position for another 500-plus-yard bashing, and was without starting cornerback Nolan Carroll, who suffered an apparently serious ankle injury.

Jason Peters, the Eagles' sore-backed left tackle, left the game with an ankle injury on the first series, which ended in a missed 50-yard field goal by Caleb Sturgis.

Lions quarterback Matt Stafford faced little pressure and had receivers open all over the field against soft zone coverage. Stafford was 17 for 25 for 201 first-half yards and three touchdowns, including four completions for 68 yards and a TD to Calvin Johnson.

Mark Sanchez did not complete a first-half pass after a drive that ended with a Brent Celek TD catch just 40 seconds into the second quarter. Sanchez went into halftime 8 for 14 for 106 yards. He was under pressure quite a bit after Peters went down, and help from the Eagles' running game, still without concussed Ryan Mathews, was meager.

DeMarco Murray's first 11 carries netted 22 yards.
