Flyers' B. Schenn injured, will be re-evaluated Wed.

Depending on which locker room you visited after the Flyers' 5-2 win over visiting Washington on Tuesday, Brayden Schenn was knocked out of the game by either a reckless check or a clean hit.

The NHL is expected to review it on Wednesday.

Schenn, the Flyers' 22-year-old center, was leveled by Tom Wilson in the second period and his head appeared to snap into the boards.

Wilson was given five minutes for charging, five minutes for fighting Nick Grossmann in the ensuing bout, and a game misconduct.

"It's a tough, reckless play, a hit from behind," Flyers coach Craig Berube said.

In regard to Schenn, who missed the last 24-plus minutes, Berube said: "I think he is OK."

After the hit, a woozy Schenn fell three times and had to be helped off the ice.

The Flyers would only say that Schenn had an upper-body injury and that more will be known on Wednesday.

Caps coach Adam Oates said Wilson didn't even deserve a penalty on the play.

The Flyers, naturally, disagreed.

"Obviously it was an ugly hit," said Flyers winger Jake Voracek, who keyed the win with a pair of goals. "He kind of turned into it, too, though. It's hard to read that before the play was coming down, but he had full speed. The league's trying to take that  out of the game, so you've got to make sure there's a little respect between the players there."

That type of hit, Voracek, said, "shouldn't be in the game right now."

Said Washington's Alex Ovechkin: "To be honest with you, I don't think it was a dirty play. He saw the hit coming, he turned and Willy is a big boy. It's always dangerous out there. It's hockey."

Added Ovechkin: "When you get hit, you have to be ready, especially at the boards. I don't think he was ready. I think he was going to turn, but Willy just finished his check."

The next move is up to Brendan Shanahan, the NHL's dean of discipline.
