Flyers, Caps in 2015 Winter Classic?

Are the Flyers going to make their third Winter Classic appearance?

The Washington Capitals will host the Flyers in the 2015 Winter Classic, HockeyBuzz.com reported on Sunday night, citing two sources.

A Flyers official said on Monday that there has been no confirmation by the league on the matchup, and that it was all "rumors" at this point.

The Flyers have lost both of their Winter Classic appearances, dropping a 2-1 overtime decision to Boston in Fenway Park in 2010, and losing to the New York Rangers, 3-2, in the 2012 game at Citizens Bank Park.

Flyers-Wild. The Flyers will host a Minnesota Wild team Monday that is starving for offense. The Wild has scored a total of 11 goals in its last eight games and is 29th in the NHL, avergaing 2.16 goals per game. Minnesota is eighth in the league with a 2.32 goals-against average, but standout goalie Josh Harding is on the injured-reserve list.

Harding blanked the Flyers, 2-0, on Dec. 2.

The Flyers are 22d in goals scored (2.44 per game) and 17th in goals allowed (2.78 per game).

Michael Raffl, Claude Giroux and Jake Voracek have been terrific since becoming the Flyers' top line. In five games, they have combined for 24 points and a plus-18 rating. Voracek has a career-high seven-game points streak (six goals, five assists), while Giroux has points in six straight games (four goals, seven assists), equaling a career best.

Steve Mason will be in  goal for the Flyers. Mason, the team's MVP thus far, has struggled lately, allowing four goals in four of his last six starts.

If they can beat the Wild, the Flyers would move back into third place in the Metro Division, provided New Jersey doesn't win in Chicago on Monday night.
