Flyers' Matt Read will miss 4 weeks with injury; Leier recalled
Flyers winger Matt Read will be sidelined four weeks with an upper-body injury, general manager Ron Hextall announced Monday.
Later in the day, the Flyers recalled speedy left winger Taylor Leier from the Phantoms and demoted Scott Laughton to Lehigh Valley. Leier could replace Read in Tuesday's game against visiting Florida.
In the opening period of a 4-2 win in Nashville on Sunday, Read was checked into the net by the Predators' Filip Forsberg and left the game. He did not return.
With Read sidelined, the Flyers figure to use Leier on Tuesday.
Leier, 22, a fourth-round pick in the 2012 draft, is second on the Phantoms with 20 points (six goals, 14 assists). He had 20 goals and 49 points last season.
Read has scored six goals, including five in the season's first five games. He has one goal over his last 22 games.
