Flyers stand pat at trade deadline

For the first time since 2010, the Flyers did not make a deal at the trade deadline _ or a week or so before the deadline.

General manager Ron Hextall decided to stand pat.

It's only the third time since 1997 that the team has not made a trade at the deadline or close to it.

General manager Ron Hextall worked the phones but stood pat Monday.

That will bring relief to the Flyers' locker room. Many players had said they would be relieved when the 3 p.m. deadline passed.

Hextall will adress the media at 5 p.m. He will give a medical update on winger Jake Voracek (foot) at that time.

Earlier Monday, as forward Sam Gagner spoke to the media after the morning skate, the locker-room TV showed his face on the screen during NHL's trade coverage.

"I've been around a lot of teams that have been sellers, so I've seen my face up there every year," he cracked. "I was going to call in. I actually don't like my head shot this year."

Gagner, who has three goals in his last four games, added that the "toughest part about today is that there's so much out of your control. You just have to try to focus on the game as much as you can."

Gagner hoped to remain here. The Flyers, winners of two straight, host Calgary on Monday night and they are three points out of a wild-card spot.

"We have a good chance to make the playoffs, and that's something I haven't done in my career," he said. "It's a good group of guys in here and I'm just trying to continue to establish a role where I can help the team every night."

Streit said he, too, said he would feel relief when 3 p.m. arrived.

"Obviously it's a little bit stressful because it's a game day and you want to focus on the game tonight and prepare yourself like it's any other day," Streit said. "But it's out of your control, and you just kind of stay on alert throughout the day and we'll see what happens.

"I love playing here, I love Philly _ it's a great sports city," he said.

Breakaways. Michal Neuvirth (15-7-4, 2,19 GAA, .928 save percentage) will make his sixth start in the last seven games and will face Calgary's Jonas Hiller, who is 9-8-1 with a 3.29 GAA and .886 save percentage.....Guy Gaudreau, the father of Calgary star Johnny Gaudreau, said 4,000 to 5,000 fans connected to Gloucester Catholic and the Hollydell Ice Arena (Sewell, N.J.) will attend tonight's game. The elder Gaudreau is the rink's hockey director, and his son gives lesson there in the summer.
