Chase Utley begins spring training with sore ankle

CLEARWATER, Fla. - Chase Utley said in his spring training news conference on Monday morning that he sprained his ankle in January and is still dealing with the pain.

"It's improved dramatically over the past two weeks but it's still not perfect," Utley said. "Early in the camp, I'm still going to take care of it. Last thing I want to do is do too much on it."

Utley spent the offseason preparing for the season in San Francisco. Everything was going great, he said, until he stepped on a baseball while he was taking grounders.

"It wasn't the prettiest sight," Utley said.

Although his ankle is bothering him, Utley said his knees feel good.

"Thats a positive," Utley said. "I've taken it kind of slow just as a precaution. But that's where were at."
