The dislocated left thumb Cesar Hernandez sustained Sunday will officially end his season. The Phillies placed their second baseman on the 60-day disabled list on Monday and selected the contract of Chase d'Arnaud from triple-A Lehigh Valley.

d'Arnaud, 28, will provide infield depth. He hit .268 over 497 at-bats in triple A this season.

Darnell Sweeney is expected to take over second base duties for the season's final 18 games.

Hernandez, 25, batted .272 with a .687 OPS over a career-high 405 at-bats this season. All but 25 of his 110 hits were singles.

Once he appears in a game, d'Arnaud will be the 50th different player the Phillies have used this season.
