Phillies spring training home is now 'Spectrum Field'

The Phillies spring training games will not be televised by PRISM but they will be played at the Spectrum after their Clearwater, Fla. ballpark was renamed "Spectrum Field" on Monday as a result of a merger that occurred last spring.

The ballpark, which opened in 2004, was formerly known as Bright House Field. It is also home to the Clearwater Threshers, the Phillies minor-league affiliate in the high-A Florida State League. The name change comes after Charter Communications acquired Bright House and Time Warner Cable in May for $71 billion. Spectrum - like Xfinity is to Comcast - is Charter's name for internet, cable television, and telecommunications. The naming rights are effective through 2020.

The Phillies report to Spectrum Field for spring training on February 13. They play an exhibition game at their newly named stadium on Feb. 23 against the University of Tampa before opening up the Grapefruit League play on Feb. 24 against the Yankees.

"We are thrilled to continue this partnership with The Phillies and Clearwater Threshers, and to have the Spectrum Field name introduced prior to the start of spring training," said Charter Chief Marketing Officer Jon Hargis in a statement. "Having recently introduced Spectrum to Florida consumers, we're proud that our name will be synonymous with this beautiful ballpark."
