Roy Halladay defends Chase Utley

Roy Halladay weighed in on whether or not Chase Utley should be suspended by MLB.

Every voice seems to be weighing in on Chase Utley's take-out slide of Ruben Tejada that resulted in a broken leg for the Mets shortstop, as well as Utley's subsequent two-game suspension and appeal.

At this point, it has largely become incoherent noise; Mets fans are too emotionally invested, Dodgers fans are too biased, and when it comes to players, there seems to be a split down the middle.

But finally, someone came to Utley's defense who is worth listening to.

It should be no surprise that the former Phillies ace/symbol of brighter times would have an opinion on this issue, given his lengthy Twitter tribute to Utley last summer. Halladay is hardly the first former Phillies player to lend Utley support on this issue, with Shane Victorino, Tony Gwynn Jr., and Larry Bowa also backing him (Bowa even blamed Tejada).

According to a report, Utley's appeal hearing is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 19 (though the Dodgers' season might be over by then).
