Williams, Thompson to make spring debut
CLEARWATER, Fla. - Nick Williams and Jake Thompson - two of the players obtained in last summer's Cole Hamels trade - will play their first Grapefruit League games on Thursday when the Phillies host Houston.
Williams is batting sixth and playing right field. Thompson, a righthanded pitcher, might pitch two innings. Prospect Zach Eflin is scheduled to relieve him. The game starts at 1:05 p.m., and is being aired by The Comcast Network and WIP-FM.
The team will be split on Thursday, as half the squad travels to Tampa to play the Yankees. Roman Quinn, J.P. Crawford, and Maikel Franco will bat at the top of the lineup for a second-straight day. Mark Appel, who was acquired in December from Houston as part of the Ken Giles trade, will pitch in relief. There is no TV or radio coverage.
