Kilpatrick shows Sixers he's NBA ready

NEW YORK – Sean Kilpatrick didn't look like a player on a second 10-day contract Tuesday night.

"He was tough," 76ers coach Brett Brown said of the Brooklyn Nets reserve shooting guard. "He made shots. There's a physical side that you can't help but be impressed with. He plays with tenacity.

"And he clearly was a big spark off the bench for them."

The 6-foot-4, 219 pounder finished with 19 points as the Nets defeated the Sixers, 131-114, at the Barclays Center.  He made 3 of 4 three-pointers, had three rebounds and two assists in 23 minutes, 15 seconds.

Brown and the Sixers are familiar with Kilpatrick. So much so that some could argue that he should have been on their team – not Brooklyn's on Tuesday.

He was a member of the Sixers' NBA Development League team, the Delaware 87ers before getting called up by the Nets. He also played for the Sevens last season and was a member of the Sixers' NBA Summer League team in 2014.

"We had seen him, and we talked about him," Brown said of considering to call him up. "It really got down to you know one of the wing positions. Was he going to kind of bump out JaKarr [Sampson]  or Isaiah [Canaan]  or Nik [Stauskas], whomever. We went with the wings we had."

The Sixers did, however, have a roster spot available to sign Kilpatrick after they waived Sampson on Feb. 18 and chose not to.  So Kilpatrick signed his first 10-day contact with Brooklyn on Feb. 28.

He's averaging 11.9 points while shooting 48.4 percent on three-pointers in eight games played with the Nets.

Brown said Kilpatrick is someone the Sixers coaching staff thought highly of.

"He did a great job for our young program in Delaware," Brown said. "Tonight he came out and I'm sure he reminded us that he was with us at one point and had a great game."
