Fultz expected to sign with Sixers at NBA Summer League

The rookie wants his mother to be at the signing.

SALT LAKE CITY –  Top draft pick Markelle Fultz is expected to sign his 76ers contract in Las Vegas at the NBA Summer League.

Sources say one hold-up is that Fultz wants his mother, Ebony Fultz, to attend the signing. She will be in Las Vegas for the summer league.  The Sixers are competing in the Utah Summer League and will open Vegas play Saturday.

As the No. 1 pick, Fultz is slated to make $5.8 million next season. However, the Sixers can pay him 20 percent more than that and most likely will. Often, teams require draft picks to do a certain amount of community service or play an extra year of summer ball to get the extra 20 percent.

Several first-round picks from last month's draft have signed contracts. Teams can take out short-term insurance policies on players who participate in summer league without having signed.
