Newbill to work out for Sixers

Former Strawberry Mansion and Penn State standout D.J. Newbill will work out for the 76ers on Friday.

The draft stock of the 6-foot-4, 210-pound guard has grown with impressive workouts. Once projected to go undrafted, Newbill could hear his name called in the second round.

He has worked out for the Charlotte Hornets, Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks and Utah Jazz. Newbill also has a workout scheduled with the Indiana Pacers.

Newbill, 23, led the Big Ten in scoring at 20.7 points this past season as a senior. He is a two-time, second-team all-conference selection. Newbill transferred to Penn State in August 2011 after his freshman year at Southern Mississippi.

He was the PIAA Class AA player of the year as a senior at Strawberry Mansion.
