Reports: 76ers to finally trade Thad Young

Shved and Mbah a Moute have contracts that will expire at the end of the upcoming season, Mbah a Moute is scheduled to make close to $4.4 million this season, Shved will make about $3.2 million.

Earlier this month, sources told the Daily News that Young would be traded to the Timberwolves in a three-team deal also involving Cleveland and that the Sixers would land last year's first overall pick, Anthony Bennett, from the Cavs.

It now appears Bennett will wind up in Minnesota, after he and 2014 No. 1 pick Andrew Wiggins are traded by Cleveland for Kevin Love. Love will join LeBron James and Kyrie Irving with the Cavaliers. It also appears the Sixers will receive Miami's first-round pick next season, which Cleveland owns. That pick will be top-10 protected in 2015 and 2016 and unprotected in 2017.

During his 7 years here, Young averaged 13.7 points and 5.5 rebounds, and shot 50 percent from the floor. Taken with the 12th overall pick in 2007 out of Georgia Tech, the 6-8 forward had his best NBA season this past year, when he averaged 17.9 points and 6.0 rebounds while enduring a 19-63 campaign. As he did much of his time with the Sixers, Young changed a big part of his game, making 90 three-pointers this past season after making a combined 118 in his previous six.

The key to this trade for the Sixers might have nothing to do with what the newly acquired players can do on the court, but rather what Mbah a Moute brings off it. Like Sixers draft pick Joel Embiid, Mbah a Moute, a 6-year veteran, is from Cameroon and has had a big hand in helping Embiid transition to playing basketball, which he didn't start playing until a little over 3 years ago. Embiid, whom the Sixers drafted third overall in June, is sidelined after fracturing a bone in his foot during predraft workouts, and might be held out for the season by the Sixers, just as Nerlens Noel was this past season.

Always the ultimate professional, Young was hindered by playing for an unsettled organization during his career, having played for five coaches and five general managers in his seven seasons. He played as a key reserve, a top starter, as the small forward, power forward and, at times, the team's center. He will make close to $9.2 million this season and has a player option at $9.7 million next season.

"I've been in the business for 7 years now, so I've seen a lot of things," Young said at the conclusion of last season when asked whetehr he thought he'd return to Philadelphia. "I've had to adjust to a lot of different situations.

"I just want to win, that's the only thing that I've cared about. I go out to play and win each and every night. I go out there and hustle. Whether I score six points or I score 25 points, as long as I have a "W" at the end of the night, that's the only thing I care about."

While he might not get a ton of those in Minnesota this season, there is little doubt he'll probably be a part of more victories there than he would have been here.
