Sixers attend former Westtown center's workout
Representatives from the 76ers, including coach Brett Brown, were among the NBA personnel on hand Sunday to watch former Westtown School center Georgios Papagiannis' pre-draft workout at Temple University.
The 7-foot-2, 276-pound center plays for Pananthinaikos B.C. of the Greek Basket League. Foreign players have until Monday to withdraw from the NBA draft.
Papagiannis spent his junior season at Westtown during the 2013-14 school year. Then he transferred to the American School in Athens, Greece for his senior year. One of the top European prospects for the Class of 2015, he had scholarship offers from Kentucky, Temple, Connecticut, Arizona, St. John's, North Carolina State and Oregon among others. But the native of Greece opted instead to play ball overseas.
He expressed interest to partake in the NBA draft process on April 24. Pagiannis could be available for the Sixers late in the first round if he opts to remain in the draft. He shot the ball well on Sunday, displaying his three-point range. He would most likely be a candidate to remain overseas for a couple of seasons if a NBA team drafts him.
