Sixers waive Daniel Orton
CLEVELAND – The 76ers have waived reserve center Daniel Orton.
The 6-foot-10, 255-pounder started four games and played in 22 games this season. He averaged 3.0 points and 2.8 rebounds in 11.4 minutes per game. Orton finished with a season-high 10 points and a career-high 11 rebounds while starting in place of Spencer Hawes at Indiana on Nov. 23.
Orton was released right before Tuesday's contract-guarantee deadline. NBA teams had until 5 p.m. to make decisions regarding the contracts of players in non-guaranteed deals.
If the player remained on the team following the deadline, their contract would be fully guaranteed for the remainder of the 2013-14 season.
Orton signed a multiple-year, non-guaranteed deal on Oct. 16.
That came one week after he was released by the Oklahoma City Thunder after playing one season with the Western Conference power. The Oklahoma native was the 29th overall pick by the Orlando Magic in 2010 following his freshman season at Kentucky.
The Magic sent him to New Mexico Thunderbirds of the NBA Development League during his rookie season. Orton suffered a season-ending knee injury in his second game for the Thunderbirds.
