Sixers waive Sampson to make room for Anthony

NEW ORLEANS – The 76ers waived JaKarr Sampson to make room for Joel Anthony.

However, the team wants to resign the guard after he clears waivers, according to a league source. The source added the Sixers want Sampson to remain with the team during their current two-game road trip against the New Orleans Pelicans (Friday) and Dallas Mavericks (Sunday).

The 6-foot-9 guard/forward averaged 5.1 points and 2.7 rebounds in 47 games appearances this season. He made 18 starts.

The Sixers picked up Anthony earlier Thursday in a three-team trade with the Houston Rockets and Detroit Pistons. They needed to cut one player in order to make room for Anthony in the 15-man roster. The Sixers are expected to waive Anthony.
