Source: Colangelo hire becomes official likely Monday

The 76ers have plans to officially name Bryan Colangelo as  the team's general manager and president of basketball operations on Monday.

However, the Sixers are considering moving it up to Sunday. They don't want to compete against the Phillies' home opener against the San Diego Padres on Monday.

Colangelo will succeed Sam Hinkie, who resigned Wednesday night. Colangelo is also the son of Jerry Colangelo, the Sixers' chairman of basketball operations. The source said Bryan Colangelo's track record – not whom he's related to – is the reason he got the job.

Bryan Colangelo worked for his father for 13 seasons with the Phoenix Suns before becoming the Toronto Raptors president and general manager from Feb. 28, 2006. He ended his tenure as the Raptors general manager on May 21, 2013 and stepped down as president on June 26, 2013.  Bryan Colangelo was honored twice as NBA executive of the year.  Another league source said his aggressive style and experience will be a good addition for the Sixers.
