Broad Street News: new surveillance system, Phillies ticket discount

Philadelphia police will debut a new surveillance system at Sunday's Blue Cross Broad Street Run.

Philadelphia police will debut a new surveillance system at Sunday's Blue Cross Broad Street Run.

Sentry is a portable, wireless system that can record happenings at considerable distances from atop a trailer. The hope is that the new system will keep an 'eye' on areas with no existing surveillance system.

The Sentry system is just one of numerous tactics and strategies police will employ to assure optimal vigilance in the wake of last month's Boston Marathon bombings.

So where are the systems located? Police aren't saying, of course. But the department has expressed a desire to have similar setups at all outdoor events in the near future. Four such devices will be on hand to monitor the United States Open golf tournament in Merion next month.

Phillies Offer Discounted Tickets to Runners, Volunteers

The Phillies announced via their Twitter account today that all Broad Street runners and participants can take advantage of a buy-one-get-one-free ticket promotion for tonight and tomorrow's games at Citizens Bank Park.

Check out the Fightin' Phils and the Miami Marlins at a discounted rate by going to phillies.com and entering "BSR" as the promo code when ordering tickets. Both games start at 7:05 pm.
