Next Sunday, SEPTA will offer free subway service to Blue Cross Broad Street Run participants.
By simply showing their official race bib to the station attendant, runners will be offered free service on the 20+ express and local trains that will be running the morning of the race.
In addition, SEPTA employees have been working round-the-clock, cleaning platforms and upgrading signage to create a better, easier experience for new or unfamiliar riders.
At the request of Deputy General Manager Jeffrey D. Knueppel, a SEPTA-sponsored 'restroom station' was installed at the Olney Transportation Center. Ten portable restrooms—full stocked with paper products and hand sanitizers—will be available on May 4 to accommodate runners.
"[These restrooms] are an additional way that SEPTA could support the thousands of runners who depend on our service on race day," says Knueppel. "In addition to ensuring that everyone has a safe, speedy ride to the starting line, we wanted to be sure that there were adequate public restroom opportunities for the runners before they begin their 10-mile journey down Broad Street on foot."
This year, the 'ISEPTAPHILLY' logo will be prominently displayed on each runner's bib. The transportation system will also host a display during the pre-race expo to be held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
