Sports Doc panelist Rob Franks wins prestigious award from Eastern Athletic Trainers’ Association
R . Robert Franks, DO, F.A.O.A.S.M, sports medicine physician at Rothman Institute, co-medical director of Jefferson Comprehensive Concussion Center, and Sports Doc panelist, has won the 2016 Dr. David G. Moyer – Physician Award from the Eastern Athletic Trainers' Association (EATA). The award is given "to a team physician that has served the profession of Athletic Training as an educator and an advocate and has also served the community in which they live and work." He will formally receive the award January 9th in Boston Massachusetts during the EATA's annual meeting.
"I'm proud to be recognized as a team physician at the Rothman Institute, Jefferson Comprehensive Concussion Center, and my many years on local, national, and international athletic fields," said Franks. "This award has been bestowed on some of the best physicians in the country. To join them is a great honor and a tribute to all those with whom I have had the privilege to work."
Candidates for the Moyer Award are vetted based on several criteria including:
Years of service as a team physician (ten year minimum).
State/E.A.T.A/N.A.T.A. activities such as speaking, offices held, liaison positions, and committee work.
Special event coverage as team physician such as all-star games, state games, Olympic games and other athletic events.
Education, research, and publications in the field of sports medicine and athletic training.
Charitable and community involvement.
Eligible nominees are selected from the EATA's first and second districts which cover the states of, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.
"I have worked for several years with athletic trainers across the northeast and across the country, most especially in New Jersey," said Franks. "These relationships have been extremely important to developing protocols on a wide range of injury management including concussion. I take great satisfaction knowing this collaborative effort has benefitted all of our athletes across the northeast."
