Hawks C.J. Aiken Is Nation's Top Shot Blocker

St. Joseph's sophomore C.J. Aiken is the country's leading sultan of swat.

Aiken leads the country in blocked shots, averaging 5.0 per game, with 40 blocks for the 5-3 Hawks. The latest statistics were released on Monday.

Kentucky 6-10 freshman Anthony Davis is second in blocked shots, averaging 4.5.

The 6-foot-9 Aiken is also averaging 12.1 points and 5.1 rebounds.

It is not as if Aiken has suddenly started blocking shots. Last season he led the Atlantic 10 and was third nationally in blocked shots, averaging 3.5 per game.

Despite all the blocked shots this season, Aiken has not been prone to fouling. He has committed just 12 personal fouls in the first eight games.

Aiken has great anticipation and rarely is faked off his feet.

In last week's 62-49 win over Drexel Aiken tied a career high with nine blocked shots as the Hawks set a team record with 16.

In large part due to Aiken, the Hawks are third nationally in blocked shots, averaging 8.6. Kentucky is No. 1 (10.6) followed by Connecticut (9.0).
