Temple Field Hockey Honored Again in NCAA Academic Performance Program Recognition

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Each year the NCAA honors selected Division I sports teams by publicly recognizing their latest multi-year academic performance rate (APR), and the Temple University field hockey team is one of those teams for a second straight year as announced by the NCAA on May 17.

This announcement is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is intended to highlight teams who demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APR's within their respective sports. Specifically, these teams posted multi-year APR's in the top 10 percent of all squads in each sport.

"We are very proud of the improved academic performance of all our teams," said Temple Athletics Director Bill Bradshaw, "and in particular the field hockey team for their exceptional performance yet again this year."

The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.

"We are very grateful for this recognition of our team's academic success," said head coach Amanda Janney. "This is a huge honor for our current players, our recent alumni, and also for our great academic advisors. Temple provides a tremendous amount of academic support for our student-athletes and we are thankful that each one of our players has graduated."

The Atlantic 10 had 53 of the 841 Division I sports teams honored, and 12 of the 14 A-10 institutions had at least one program recognized. In addition, all 21 sports sponsored by the conference were represented by at least one A-10 program.
